An excellent wine you’ll want to savor! AA Badenhorst’s Family Red is a gorgeous red blend, led by noble variety Shiraz. Its nose is brooding but complex with aromas of black cherries, perfume, pepper, and liquorice. On the palate, the entry is rich with flavors of dark berry fruit and lavender, while the finish is dry and reminiscent of currant and savory notes. Tannins are forthcoming but well incorporated and ripe. This wine is quite shy while young and will continue to develop and become more expressive over the next 8 years from vintage and beyond.
Blend: Shiraz 80%, Cinsault 7%, Grenache 3%
"Aged in 40-year-old foudres, the 2017 Family Red Blend is dark ruby in color and scented of dark red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied, with good acidity, bright and fresh fruit hits the mid-palate, followed by structured dusty-floral tones and shows a good tannic structure. Spice notes linger on the finish, with some slightly bitter red fruit on the back end. This is a nice wine with good focus and complexity, and it's still young and tight and should age nicely in the years to come." Wine Advocate, 92 Points
