This Chateauneuf du Pape based estate continues to go from strength to strength, as Brotte fashions a bevy of beautiful red wines from throughout the Southern Rhone. In almost all cases, the wines over-deliver like the 2017 Cotes du Rhone Cairanne. A blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah, the long, hot, dry growing season produced great wines, and this Cairanne is from some of the oldest plots of the appellation, 100 years for the Grenache! The combination of the vineyards and the vintage produced reds with great focus, dark aromas of plums and red cherries with plenty of tannins and structure. Brotte balances this with two years in oak foudre before bottling.
"Fresh summer berries and a palate that has a red-fruit layer, ahead of deeper blue fruit through the finish. Mid-weight, but big on flavor." James Suckling, 91 Points
"Silky and refined in feel, with gently mulled cherry and plum notes that glide along, picking up light flashes of anise and black tea along the way. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Drink now through 2023." The Wine Spectator, 90 Points
