Taking Santa Barbara by storm, it's been 20 years since Joey Tensley started making vineyard designated wines as a side project from his "day job" as winemaker for Beckmen Vineyards. He obtained cult status when Matt Kramer added two of his 2001's to The Wine Spectator's Top Ten list. Rich and deep with decadent notes of chocolate and black fruits, the palate is round and velvety with a long, lingering finish. Look for hints of vanilla from the 20 percent new French oak. If you love big, ripe, full-bodied reds, you must try Tensley's Colson Canyon Syrah.
"A more elegant, perfumed, floral wine from this site, the 2019 Syrah Colson Canyon offers Côte Rôtie-like black raspberry, violets, spring flowers, and gamey, meat-driven aromatics. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured, with a kiss of background oak, it's going to show nicely right out of the gate yet also have two decades of longevity." Jeb Dunnuck, 94-96 Points
